4 March 2007 Time, Time, Time

Tick, Tock, Tick ,Tock

How fast do I shoot ? Being a crazy wedding photographer with most of my faculties still intact I fortunately shoot extremely fast. Perhaps if I didn't I would fall asleep. I am constantly taking in my surroundings, noticing the little things that form part of the big picture. I talk a lot and enjoy keeping the flow of my imagery moving. But what has this got to do with time you may be asking yourself, what am I on about?

At a recent wedding I was approached by a vendor and was told that I have exactly 30 minutes in which to shoot the bridal couple and family as the wedding was running slightly behind schedule and that dinner was plated and they had a time schedule to adhere to. This was negotiated to 45 minutes, reminded me of a market scenario....

The photography completed, I had time to reflect and figure out how I would approach some thing like this in the future. The answers did not come to me that evening. The next morning slightly irate I phoned the venue and asked to speak to the person to find out what their policy is on weddings running slightly late. Their answer, unfortunately they have to cut into the photographers time. I sometimes wonder if they inform the bridal couple about this before they book?

So some advise, discuss time issues with your photographer and with the folks responsible for co-ordinating your wedding. After all it's all about communication.

Got to run, their goes the dinner bell :)
